James May addresses weight gain as he details project after The Grand Tour

James May: Our Man in India teased in Prime Video trailer

James May has addressed gaining weight during the latest instalment of his Our Man in… show which sees him travel to India. The 60-year-old said he ate plenty of good food while on his travels, which led to him piling on the pounds.

Speaking in the Radio Times Christmas issue, the television personality explained: “The main danger is getting fat, because Indians are feeders. I certainly put on weight. Everything is fantastic, and the problem is that as soon as you finish your bowl of delicious paneer masala, they fill it up again.”

The special series will see The Grand Tour presenter travel all over the country, soaking up the culture, food and various traditions. Going into more detail about the episode, James told the publication: “We went from west to east, from the Arabian Sea to the Bay of Bengal.

“In Mumbai we visited Dharavi, the ‘slum’ from the film Slumdog Millionaire, which is extremely densely populated and often without running water and so on. But it’s also a very industrious area that turns over a lot of money in trades like pottery and plastic recycling. Darjeeling was great: I saw how tea is made.”

The presenter’s travel documentary series airs on Amazon Prime and the last two series have seen the star visit Japan and Italy. The third series of James’ show comes as his future on The Grand Tour with Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond hangs in the balance.

The trio have reportedly decided to move on, seven years after it first launched on Amazon Prime Video.

A source told The Sun: “It’s a surprising decision and everyone realises it very much marks the end of an era for the three presenters.

“The Grand Tour is one of Prime Video’s most-watched shows and Jeremy, James and Richard have a devoted following.

“But the guys have made no bones about the fact they’re all advancing in years and they have lots of other projects to pursue.”
